A magical weekend with Janice at Fig and Twigs in her Big Bear Lake home. My Trip to Big Bear with Fig and Twigs was amazing, words can’t describe how lovely of a weekend we had but I will try. Summer Adams and I flew into LA together and met up with some friends for a girls weekend where we crafted, set beautiful tablescapes, ate great food and laughed and cried all weekend. After Bill and Janice Marrow lost their daughter Kaitlin, we wanted to spend some time with our dear friend. Sheila at Maison de Cinq along with our friend Alicia at Un De Once also joined us. There were five of us ladies with one sweet baby Harper that we got to hold and love on.
My Trip to Big Bear with Fig and Twigs
To start of, I met Janice years ago when my hubby and I flew down to Newport California to go to the fabric district with Bill and Janice. I was looking into fabrics for my online store and this was a great way to find materials to use. I never did end up ordering material from there but the adventure was so fun. We went to the flower market where Janice buys flowers most every week. We ate lunch and strolled around looking at the vendors. One day we all went to the flea market where I shipped some goods home. It was that trip that sealed our friendship. Our husbands enjoyed each other as we spent time together.
We got to know Bill and Janice’s family on a memorable Father Day. It was so special with memories that touch the heart. We had other short visits over the years, so to spend a long weekend up at their Big Bear cabin felt like coming home to an old friends home.
My trip to Big Bear with Fig and Twigs was one of deep sadness as we grieved the passing of her daughter and yet so much fun and joy as we laughed and visited about our lives. Janice shares a bit more on her Instagram at Fig and Twigs.
Detour to the beach
Summer and I almost missed our flight out the morning we left. We didn’t notice what time it was and thought we left later than it was. Once we got to our gate the plane was loaded and we had to run down the ramp before they closed the airplane door. That was just the beginning of our disastrous day. Once we landed, we headed down to Manhattan Beach for a couple hours just to take in some beach time and to relax with the sound of waves and warm sunshine. We happened to sit at the watered edge and noticed the tide was coming in. At one point the waves almost got us and our bags wet so we jumped up and when we did, Summer dropped her phone.
Once we got up to the car she noticed it missing and we freaked out. We ran back down to the beach and scanned the waves. It was hopeless until I spun around and just on the water’s edge and into the sand was her phone half buried but not wet. We were so relieved.
The drive up to Big Bear had a long delay as we stopped to eat and take care of a personal matter that ended up getting resolved after much stress. Boy were we thankful once we got up to the cabin and settled into our long weekend.
Big Bear Lake
Take a look at all the photos of Janice’s beautiful Big Bear Cabin. We set the tables with fresh flowers and pumpkins. I will give you a tutorial on how to create a pumpkin floral centerpiece in the next blog post. Janice is so talented and had so much for us to do. It was so sweet that she wanted to use the purple line table runner I gave to her when they came out to visit us at the farmhouse. I hope you find these photos inspiring.
We set up many tablescapes, like this fall one I have done here. They were gorgeous and it was so much fun having us all together to bond and do all of these fun crafts. These women are all so talented!
This is her flower room below. It is just absolutely amazing and she does beautiful work!
Ruffled Jeans!
Having sweet baby Harper was such a joy. We took a walk around the cabin in the warm fall air. Then we went shopping and out to eat. We even stopped at Kmart to buy $13 jeans to make our ruffled pants. It was just so easy and so fun to be together and to enjoy the moments. Seeing Janice dance down the street after lunch one day made us crack up and smile at the carefree feeling we were able to enjoy.
Isn’t baby Harper the cutest thing you have ever seen?!
My Trip to Big Bear with Fig and Twigs was more than words can describe so I put a bunch of photos for you to enjoy for inspiration.
We may have spilled some purple paint and it was quite the disaster. But we’re not going to talk about that, because it was kind of a painful moment in our lovely vacation. Thanks for stopping by and checking the fun and inspiring weekend we had!
