Last week I was working on our patio refresh. One of the things I wanted to use was this wood umbrella base, but then I needed a new cover. Well I bought a umbrella from World Market with fringe but it didn’t fit this umbrella stand. So I made my own DIY Umbrella Cover with Pom Poms. Let me go through how easy it is and how well it will last. I had a lot of points made on Instagram that we will cover as well.

DIY Umbrella Cover with Pom Poms
Oh and at the bottom of the post I will be sharing many other ladies and their beautiful outdoor spaces and diy. To get started use a drop cloth or any other material that you have available. We will talk about how to waterproof any material for outdoors in this post here. This drop cloth had a waterproof plastic on one side. Be sure to use a very large one as it needs to cover just past the umbrella base stand.
How to attach your umbrella
To start to process of attaching the drop cloth, I draped the large piece of drop cloth over the umbrella stand. Then I stapled the cloth onto the first rib of the umbrella. I then went around the umbrella. Stapling to each rib, but while doing that I made sure I was pulling the fabric tight so I didn’t have it draping too much. Now there’s your umbrella, next comes the pom poms. After doing that is when I would waterproof the umbrella.
How to attach the pom poms
When attaching the pom poms, I used Gorilla Super Glue. Someone told me super glue just won’t do. But Gorilla glue’s super strong so I just went for it. Winging it is my style! But anyways I just went around the edge of the umbrella and slowly glued on the pom poms. Now that’s what I call easy!
I got a few questions when I was showing this on my Instagram. Like what happens if the staples rust? Well I would just cover them with a pom pom and you’ll be good to go. That’s my solution at this crusty farmhouse. The pom poms would cover the staple marks perfect!
What kind of umbrella base can I use?
I would recommend a wood one, just because that’s what is easiest to staple. But a plastic umbrella can work too. Instead of stapling, I would hot glue the fabric down. But if you know me I would still try to staple if the plastic is a soft plastic. Have you ever seen a lace umbrella before? Well I’ve made a lace umbrella before and it was easy peasy plus really gorgeous.
