What is Hygge (pronounced hoo-gah)? It’s a danish word that translates into a cozy feeling with moments of joy in everyday life. Not just a look, but a way of everyday living. Read more about what hygge means to us when creating a relaxing home. This season we wanted to create a Hygge Scandinavian Christmas Bedroom.

7 Tips to Create a Scandinavian Christmas Bedroom
When creating a hygge home, it is important to make it feel inviting and a place you want to be in. I will give you 7 tips on how to help achieve this feeling. And a bonus at the bottom of this post there will be many other bloggers with their Christmas inspiration.
Tip 1: Earthy Elements
Right now I love wood tones and then pops of greenery. These really warm up a space. I also like to bring the outdoors in by going to our cedar tree and grabbing a couple sprigs. You will always find a cedar throughout my house during the holidays.
Tip 2: Blankets and cozy bedding
This has got to be one of my favorite tips. After a long day, just getting cozy in bed is the best feeling. For the holidays I have the most perfect woody car sheets and then I paired it with this stunning Scandinavian quilt. I couldn’t find the exact quilt as this is from last year. But I grabbed a few of my favorites using affiliate links below.
We also have a little faux mantel in our bedroom, I absolutely love it. It really makes the space cozy. Plus it’s a lot of fun to decorate. We made a little village then hung our favorite linen stockings.

Tip 3: Candles
Candles are always a must! For this look I didn’t go overboard with them. But enough to add a little lighting to the space for the evening. Simple tea lights can do the trick.

Tip 4: Wall Decor
Keep it simple. Add your favorite piece, like a wreath. We added this dried orange wreath. It adds a bit of color but not too much is going on to distract you from the bedding.

Tip 5: Lighting
This is one of the most important tips. Lighting really sets the mood for a room. Do whatever kind of lighting makes you feel cozy and happy, to create that hygge setting. So if you like a darker dim lit room, I’d go with a few candles and dimming lights. But if you think light and bright is cozy, go for that!
Tip 6: Useful decor
The decor in your home should be useful for the hygge lifestyle. Of course it doesn’t all have to be. But pieces that you actually use will make the space used and loved. Like a bench at the end of the bed, so cute but used all the time!

Tip 7: Patterns
Patterns make the space so fun! As you can see we picked a fun village pattern for the bedding. But you can also add little touches of pattern here and there. Like I changed out the stockings on our mantel with some wool plaid and buffalo check ones. Since there isn’t a lot of pattern in the whole room these add a fun touch.
